when is this wonderful wedding show anyway? jun's sister is getting married this summer and she's been asking me to go with her, too. maybe i'll see you there instead! i'll be the one hogging the line in front of the snack table =)

i took out my blackberry plan (or whatever you call that plan to use pin texting) because i never use it. i am on the internet more than i am on the phone, so anyone can just email me or leave me a message on facebook and i'll respond a lot faster! lol

We're actually thinking of having the social in the middle of this year (August/September) because of things that the fiancee and I are doing throughout the year until our wedding -- so when we get the date, I'll make sure to let you know!

The wedding show is this weekend! My bridesmaids/maid of honor are taking me on Sunday to celebrate my 25th birthday there, lololol. How convenient! Seriously though, you should go. Wear a good pair of shoes and get ready to go through a lot of places. I hear there are TONS of places to check out. :)

it's a function/party usually held a few months before the wedding. tickets to get in are usually $10 and you have your entourage to sell as many tickets as they can. the most people i've seen attend a social is around 1000 people, so on tickets alone you can make $10,000! the main part of the social are the prize draws. people can buy as many tickets as they want for whatever prizes they want to win. i've seen plasma tvs, cruise tickets, vegas tickets, even washers and dryers! tickets for the draws are sold by lengths, like 1 arm length worth of tickets is $10 or something like that. so people try to cheat and find the person with the longest arms to buy tickets for them, which i find really funny! and then there's tickets for booze, too! so yeah, you can make so much money off of a social! and then the bride and groom use that towards their wedding. pretty cool huh!

hey momma! really? you told me what a social is before? hmmmm i have really bad memory, sorry lol i still don't really get it...so where do the prizes come from? (those are some grand prizes!)

usually the prizes are provided by the bride and groom themselves. sometimes family offers to buy or pitch in for some of the prizes. and other times if you're lucky and are not shy about going to businesses, you can get sponsored by writing them a formal letter regarding your wedding social. businesses here don't give much for social prizes, usually little items, but even with those little items that you collect from various companies you can make a prize package out of it. i've seen spa packages, electronic packages, auto packages, hair packages...oh! and the money tree package is my favorite! it's just a cardboard cut into a shape of a tree and then you stick scratch n' win tickets onto it until the whole tree is filled up with the tickets. usually couples buy like $100 worth of $1-$5 scratch n' win tickets to fill a 2 ft cardboard tree. of course the more tickets you have on the tree the more people will want to spend on it.

basically, you can have whatever you want for the prizes. it's all a matter of getting people to spend as much money as they can at your wedding social. the better the prizes, the more money you'll make =)

ooh..and of course, you gotta allow people to enjoy themselves. good music to dance to, tons of booze, and finger foods...it's really a big party held in a rec center, 'cept your main goal is to take their money. lol

do you guys provide the prizes then? who plans the social date?

well, sometimes couples get lucky and find sponsors for the prizes. and sometimes the parents of the couples pitch in for the bigger items. but most often, the couples are the ones who pay for the whatever prizes they want. on average, a couple can spend anywhere from $3000-$6000 on a social. but if everything is planned right and you're diligent about collecting the money from your entourage for the tickets sold (because sometimes they tend to just give the tickets to people and collect the money later...and "later" usually means never so you end up losing money on that) then you can more than double the amount you spent on everything. a friend of mine who had a social two years ago made about $15,000 and i believe they spent about about $5000 on everything...booze, finger foods, prizes, cost of the rec center, etc.

and the social date is pretty much up to you.

thank you! i know, the date's cheesy...but the number 10 has always been a good number for me. jun and i met at 10pm. haha, i actually remember the time because that was the time he approached me at the pub we first met at to ask for the time, even though i could clearly see that he had a watch on his wrist! lol. and then we officially started dating on april 10th, 2003. so yeah, that's the meaning behind the date.
